Stratford is short for Stratford-Upon-Avon and is famously known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Stratford is an idyllic town with old buildings, cottages, the River Avon close by, and the town itself showcases great atmosphere.

Shakespeare is the world’s most renowned actor, poet and playwright who left his mark upon the world by writing such famous works. Plays include; Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, As You Like it, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, What Women Want and much, much more!

Shakespeare’s famous poems include the following: A Lover’s Complaint, The Phoenix and the Turtle, The Sonnets and Venus & Adonis.

It is believed that Shakespeare was born on the 26th April 1564.He was the third child and eldest son of eight children. Shakespeare was baptised and also laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford. William married a woman called Anne Hathaway and they had three children, Susanna, and twins Judith and Hamnet. Though Shakespeare made his fortune in London, he returned to Stratford from time to time to see his wife and children, and put a lot of his hard earned cash into the town of Stratford rather than in London. Shakespeare bought New Place in 1596.
