Planning a trip this year and can’t decide what is the best time to visit England? We have put together this helpful guide to find out when would be best for you!
England is a country where sometimes you can experience sun, cloud and rain all in one day, but despite the unpredictability of the weather, there are four distinct seasons, each with their own distinctive charm. No matter where you are coming from or what climate you prefer, there’s a perfect time of year in England for everyone.
Spring
March, April and May are the months of spring in England. At this time of year, you can expect beautiful flowers, lush vegetation and the occasional shower of rain! This is also the time of year for Easter, a Christian holiday commonly celebrated across England whether you are religious or not. Its date is decided by the lunar calendar, meaning Easter can fall on any Sunday between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April. If you like green scenery, chocolate and mild temperatures, is the best time to visit England.
Summer
June, July and August are the months of summer in England. At this time of year, you can expect blue and sunny skies, the highest temperatures and a lot of tourists! This is a very popular time of year to visit because of the school holidays and the best weather, so be prepared to share space with other visitors whilst sightseeing. It is the least likely time of year to rain in summer, but the possibility is never zero. Also, be aware, many buildings in England do not have air conditioning, including most homes and some hotels! If you like the heat, sunlight and ice cream, summer is the best time to visit England.
Autumn
September, October and November are the months of autumn in England. At this time of year, you can expect colourful yellow, orange and red foliage, cosy seasonal drinks and cooler temperatures. Many people choose to come in autumn since it is far less busy than the summer and because of the festivities. There is Halloween on the 31st of October, and Bonfire Night on the 5th of November which is a holiday unique to England! It marks the anniversary of a failed bombing of the Houses of Parliament 350 years ago and is traditionally celebrated with fireworks, bonfire toffee and apple-bobbing. If you like cooler weather and cultural celebrations, autumn is the best time to visit England.
Winter
December, January and February are the months of winter in England. At this time of year, you can expect to find the cheapest prices, since this is the coldest and wettest season, but wrapping up and braving the weather can mean some amazing deals! Moreover, up to the 25th of December, you will find Christmas markets, decorations and seasonal food and drink wherever you go. January and February are the quietest months in terms of tourists, so if you are looking for a calm and relaxed sightseeing experience, visiting then will be perfect for you. If you like midwinter festivities, snow and lots of space to snap your photos, winter is the best time to visit England.
