backpacks travel day tour

Coming with us on one of our amazing day trips? Whether you’ve already booked or you’re still deciding where to go, it’s important to consider what to take with you in your backpack on your big day out. To give you a helping hand, we have put together this guide of what to take on a day trip.

Phone charger/power pack

Taking photos is arguably the best part of a day trip! So, to avoid your battery running low and to keep your spirits high, make sure to bring along your phone charger and a pre-charged power pack. All of our coaches have USB ports that you can plug into to charge on the go, and this way you will be able to snap each and every memorable moment without worrying about your battery life. Another great idea is to bring an instant camera, which can be a fun way to get creative with your pictures and have a physical reminder of your great day out to keep.

Food and drink

Sightseeing is hard work, so it’s a great idea to take some snacks with you to keep up your energy. We recommend lightweight, energy-dense items that can be eaten with minimal mess, like dried fruit, nuts, cereal bars and jerky. It is also important to bring lots of water with you to stay hydrated, especially on hot days. Regular water and snack breaks will keep you refreshed and energised, and let you get the most out of the day.

Weather protection

Here in England, we often joke that sometimes we can experience all four seasons in one day. English weather certainly can be unpredictable, and we recommend checking the forecast in advance and bringing suitable items for your destination. These include a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses for hot and bright days, or a raincoat and umbrella on wet and cloudy days. A warm jumper is also a good idea, especially in exposed locations with strong winds like Stonehenge and the White Cliffs of Dover. Lastly, wear comfortable socks and footwear suitable for walking around to see the sights.

Cash and cards

Although most shops and eateries in England do take cards nowadays, you may come across in your travels the few businesses that still only accept cash, especially in small countryside towns or areas with a traditional way of life. Make sure to bring both cash and cards, so you can splash out on all the souvenirs you want! Also, a small reusable bag to carry all your goodies. Moreover, cash is useful for tipping, and in case of emergencies.

Coach comforts

In between the interesting talks given by your experienced guide, you will also have time to relax on the coach and enjoy the wonderful scenery. You may want to bring a neck-pillow or blanket if you would like to grab a power nap between stops, or headphones to listen to music or an audio guide if there is one available. Also, some hand sanitiser to keep you feeling clean and fresh whenever it’s time to snack! If you’re travelling in a group, a pack of cards can make for perfect entertainment during lunchtime.

Last but not least

The final step is to fit everything into a sturdy backpack that you will feel comfortable carrying around with you. This guide is an outline, not a comprehensive list, and the most important thing to bring is, of course, yourself, and to have fun. Whether your trip will take you through the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds, Stonehenge and the White Cliffs of Dover, or to see the stunning architecture of Oxford, Bath, and Canterbury, our knowledgeable, helpful guides and friendly, professional drivers will ensure you have a great day out.
