What to do at Windsor

Getting around the site

The entrance to the castle is about a 10-minute walk from the coach parking. Upon arrival, all visitors go through airport-style security checks. We recommend bringing as little luggage as possible. Cloakrooms are available for large backpacks, umbrellas, pushchairs and buggies. From there, visitors can then follow the self-guided tour along the one-way route through the castle.

Please note that Windsor Castle is on top of a hill and there is a lot of walking involved. It is also a working royal residence and may sometimes need to close on short notice. Opening days are Thursday to Monday weekly.

Journey

  • Approx. 2 hours journey time to the Stonehenge site.
  • Approx. 1.5 hours journey time from Stonehenge to Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds.
  • Approx. 2 hours journey time from Bourton-on-the-Water back to London.

Time

  • 7:00 Depart from Gloucester Road. There will be a short stop at services on the way to Stonehenge for your comfort.
  • 9:30 Arrive at Stonehenge. Be among the first tour groups at the Stonehenge site. You have at least 1 hour to spend at Stonehenge. Enjoy the monument, the landscape and the visitor centre. Your tour guide will give you the admission ticket which allows you access to the Stonehenge site. We recommend taking the shuttle bus directly to and from the stones to beat the crowds. The walk from the visitor centre to Stonehenge takes approximately 30 minutes.
  • 11:00 Depart from Stonehenge and take a scenic drive into the Cotswolds through beautiful English countryside.
  • 12:30 Arrive at Bourton-on-the-Water. Enjoy the charming village with time for lunch and sightseeing.
  • 2:30 Depart from Bourton-on-the-Water. There will be a short stop at services on the way to London for your comfort.
  • 5:00 Arrive back in London at Gloucester Road, tour finishes.
