What to do at Windsor

Dating back to almost 1000 years ago, it is now the oldest and largest occupied palace in the world. The interior is lavishly decorated, giving you a unique glimpse into the world of royalty!

Marvel at the gorgeous gold-covered State Apartments, with both ceremonial and historic rooms. Warm your heart with Queen Mary’s Doll House, or enjoy a moment of peace in St George’s Chapel. This church has been the site of many royal weddings and is the resting place of the late Queen Elizabeth II, whose grave you can still visit today.

Windsor also contains a significant portion of the Royal Collection of art. Throughout the halls, you will find awe-inspiring paintings, furniture, vases and sculptures.

The grounds of the castle are made up of lush parks and gardens, perfect for a relaxing stroll. There’s even the chance to see the historic “Changing of the Guard” ceremony at 11:00 AM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays!

To make the most of your time at the site, a free audio guide will be given to you. It is available in 10 languages, meaning you can enjoy in-depth details as you explore the castle. Please bring your own headphones/earphones (standard jack) if you want to listen to the audio guide.

Finally, stop for a delicious bite to eat in the Undercroft Café and buy a memento from the gift shop to remember this exciting day trip for years to come. Dive into over 950 years of history, art and culture on our Windsor Castle Afternoon Tour!

Getting around the site

The entrance to the castle is about a 10-minute walk from the coach parking. Upon arrival, all visitors go through airport-style security checks. We recommend bringing as little luggage as possible. Cloakrooms are available for large backpacks, umbrellas, pushchairs and buggies. From there, visitors can then follow the self-guided tour along the one-way route through the castle.

Please note that Windsor Castle is on top of a hill and there is a lot of walking involved. It is also a working royal residence and may sometimes need to close on short notice. Opening days are Thursday to Monday weekly.

Great day at the Cotswolds and Oxford. Tour guide James was very informative, interesting and definitely not boring. Bus driver Marius was fantastic and also entertaining.

I took the Stonehenge and Bath tour. It was perfect, Rosie was so nice, and she explained everything so well because she actually lived there in Bath, so she knew interested facts about everything. I totally recommend it.

This Stonehenge half-day trip was great. It was nice to be able to arrive at the site right as it was opening. Our guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable and the bus ride was very comfortable. It was the right amount of time to spend at Stonehenge.
